One of our biggest initiatives each year is our annual Popcorn Sales Drive. Popcorn sales contribute a large portion of our operating budget. Our sales proceeds go toward awards, supplies, camping, any subsidies, tee shirts, etc. The more we sell, the more great stuff we get to have and do!
But, popcorn is not just about fundraising. It’s a great opportunity for scouts to learn how to speak publicly and to explain scouting and the popcorn program. They also learn how to deal with the joy of a successful sale and well as the inevitable “no’s” that come. It builds confidence, teamwork skills and they gain a sense of ownership/responsibility to their community. All are such valuable tools for later in life.
Another opportunity offered by Trails End Gourmet Popcorn is the Scout Scholarship Program. Any scout who achieves $2500 in sales in a calendar year will receive a college scholarship fund. Once they achieve the $2500 threshold, for the remainder of their scouting career, they will receive 6% of all their popcorn sales towards their fund. This is an excellent opportunity to teach them the importance of saving for the future, setting a goal for college, and it could turn out to be a nice perk for parents as well!
And lastly, believe it or not, our popcorn fundraisers are a lot of fun!
